I love nice photographs but have never ever been able to take any. I just point and shoot and hope that some will come out halfway decent. All the high ratings for this camera gave me hope that perhaps this might give me the nudge from taking horrid to average photographs without spending a small fortune and having to know anything about cameras and accessories and features and functions. I have a new baby,you see, and there is no better subject to a new mama than endless photos of the little one. When the camera came, I started snapping away (fabulous rechargeable battery) and was pleased not to have to worry about anything complicated to immediately begin tormenting the child with endless interaction with the lens-the lovely Leica lens! Within two days, I came out with a photograph that makes me look like an artist and captures my child beautifully. And I still have no real grasp of the settings. I don’t really care. I just wanted to be able to point, play around with the size so I can fill the screen (the one piece of advice I got from someone who can really take pictures) and click. Then I want great pictures with a few exceptional ones thrown in for the times when I want to send some around, frame them or show off. And this camera gave that to me. I can’t give you any technical review. I don’t know how this compares to others (other than my ancient Canon Powershot A40 which was tortuously slow in clicking and gave me average photographs). I just know that if someone like me can take an exquisite picture with the thing, then it is an amazing device! Thanks very much to all the previous product reviewers who convinced me to take a chance and get this. It was so worth it!

Not thrilled – Stephra –
I am having a hard time getting the colors of lanscapes to turn out nicely with this camera. Even with all the settings to switch between I cant find one to use regularly to take pictures of my backyard, they are either too dark or too bright. Either way it doesnt seem to catch the details as much as I would like. I am going to go for a Nikon next, my mom has a Nikon 4800 and it takes some great pictures.

Canon Powershot SD30 5MP Digital Elph Camera with 2.4x Optical Zoom (Rockstar Red) Review

I got this camera 3 years ago as a surprise for my wife, and she has loved it. It is very small so she can always take it with her in her purse. It has come in handy in the many situations in life where you want to take a photo and you thankfully have this camera handy. Today, I suppose people use their cell phones these purposes, but as you know, the image quality on cell phone cameras is horrendous. My wife can take a real photo and circulate to her family and friends who want something worth keeping.

After 3 years of use the LCD flickers, and it will need to be repaired. I first checked to see if Canon makes anything as small, and they don’t, so we will spend the money to keepo using this camera. It is not a prosumer or DSLR replacement, but it is a camera we can and do take everywhere, and so it has captured some great shots we’d have otherwise missed.

Camera itself is okay but be very careful buying this camera as the power cord adaptor for this product is discontinued and no longer supported by CANON.

I have had the PowerShot SD30 for over 3 years now and it has served me well. It is still up and running with a few minor problems. Sometimes the shutter won’t completely open or close. I just give it a nudge and it goes into place, but it is still inconvenient. The buttons on the back are sticking and it’s difficult to scan through pictures without accidentally pressing another button (and I have tiny fingers). But after three long years of being dragged around everywhere in my purse, this little guy has stood up very well.

The picture quality isn’t as great as I wish it could have been. Indoor pictures in dim lighting are terrible, and sometimes you have to hold down the button for a very long time before the flash will even go off. When you want to catch something in the moment, you probably won’t, and it’s pretty hard to hold a not-so-fake smile for that amount of time.

This camera is durable and lasting in structure, but not so much in picture quality.

I originally received the Canon Powershot SD30 5mp Digital Elph 3 years ago. On a recent cruise it was stolen, so the search to find another just like it began. Because it is so small, I have it will me all the time. It takes wonderful pictures. Everytime I take it out, someone comments on what a small camera it is, and then they can’t believe the wonderful results.

Wish they still made this camera. I searched and found nothing comparable.

Canon PowerShot A20 2MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom Review

I just purchased another Canon A20. This one was used. I use them in my business to photograph houses. I have 2 currently being used and this will be the third. I have purchased other digitals, Fuji, Pentax, Nikkon, and even the newer Canon 510.
All have had problems and did not last 6 months. The Canon 510 has a major design/engineering flaw. When the batteries die and the camera is in the process of taking a photo, the lens attempts to retract into the camera but gets stuck. When new batteries are put in, the lens will not move. You cannot take photos with it. After the fiasco with the new Canon and the other name brand digitals, I decided to try and find an A20. I did and it works as good as my other two, though it is used.

Canon PowerShot A480 10 MP Digital Camera with 3.3x Optical Zoom and 2.5-inch LCD (Black) Review

This is my second Canon digital point and shoot camera and it is a winner. My wife and I seem to have lost our A620 (how do you lose a digital camera?!) and needed to replace it quickly with something inexpensive. After doing some research we went with the A480 and are very satisfied. The camera is svelte enough to travel in a pocket and is reasonably attractive in design. Our bottom line most important criterion was picture quality, and the A480 delivers. The pictures are close in quality to those of the A620, an older but significantly more expensive Canon “A” series model that offered more manual controls. I was really surprised to get such good shots from such a budget price. I’ve owned Fuji & Casio digital cameras and I find that comparably price Canon cameras take better pictures for the most part and the A480 only confirms this expectation. The A480 is a model of simplicity, both in terms of controls and features. There are a dozne “scene modes” but 90% of the time we simply use the auto mode and let the camera do the rest. The pictures look great, both outdoor and indoor. I was figuring that with a camera we’d have to sacrifice picture quality but that isn’t the case. Speed-wise the camera is only average, showing a little bit of irritating lag time between pressing the button and capturing the shot. You’ll also have to wait a few seconds after shooting for the camera to ready itself for the next shot. The A480 does, however, start up very quickly when you turn it on. The less-than blazing speeds are not surprising given the price, and that’s really the overall deal with the A480 – it all comes down to expectations. This is a budget camera and for the sub-0 price you get a quality instrument capable of delivering really good pictures, but without much in the way of features and a performance level that is not top tier. A solid no-frills digital camera that offers good bang for buck and very good photo quality in a simple point and shoot package.

I love Canon. This little camera takes great images in all kinds of conditions. It’s not designed for low-light photography but even those images come out pretty good. During the day indoor shots are great too even without a flash.

For someone new to digital photography this is a great first camera. My teen-aged daughter uses it as her first camera and had taken some amazing shots! The A480 would also be good for an older person who wants to get into digital photography. You could also use it as a backup camera and be very happy with the results.

If you need an inexpensive, dedicated camera that you can carry around you’ll do well having this one. The best camera is the one you have with you! You won’t be able to capture the images without a camera!

I also bought an Canon Power shot S400 Digital Camera …and it also stopped working a year ago with the “Memory card Error”..I was looking for a new camera…and saw that I wasn’t the only one with that problem….I wrote to the Company and this is what they said..

“Thank you for writing to us. We value you as a Canon customer and
appreciate the opportunity to assist you. I am sorry that the PowerShot
S400 is giving you a memory card error.

When memory card errors appear, a corrupted memory card might be the
cause. Reformatting the memory card may solve the issue. Please follow
these steps to format a memory card:

NOTE: Formatting a memory card erases all data, including protected
images and other file types.

1. Press the MENU button.

2. In the SET UP menu (wrench/hammer icon), select FORMAT and press the
SET button.

3. Use the left/right arrow button to select OK and press the SET
button.

If formatting the card fails, turn the camera off and re-insert the
memory card. Next, turn the camera back on and format again. If this
does not work, you should try a different memory card. If you only get
the error with one card, you will need to contact the memory card
manufacturer for assistance. Unfortunately, if you have the same
difficulty with both cards, your camera will require service.

We have discovered a memory card communication issue with the S400. If
it is determined by Canon USA that your PowerShot S400 camera is
exhibiting the problem that has been identified, the camera will be
repaired free of charge, regardless of whether the camera is still under
warranty.

confirm/provide the following information:

When shipping your camera, please be sure to remove the memory card and

Canon PowerShot S400 4MP Digital Camera w/ 3x Optical Zoom Specifications

Canon’s PowerShot range of cameras has always been strong, and the PowerShot 400 continues that tradition. The 4 Megapixel Canon PowerShot S400 digital camera is capable of taking still images at 2,272 x 1,704 pixels–enough for a good quality A4 print. Resolutions go down to 640 x 480 for images you might only want to look at digitally. You can also capture video at 320 x 240 and 160 x 120 pixels.

The camera is very small indeed–smaller than earlier PowerShot models, and is easily pocket sized. There is what at first might seem a bewildering array of buttons around the casing, but in fact these provide excellent one-button-press access to most of the most used features, such as the 3x optical zoom which goes up to 11x when combined with digital zoom features, the macro mode, settings for the flash and self timer. For more advanced features like changing the shutter speed, which it is great to be able to do on a digital camera; you do need to delve into the LED a little further, though.

Images are stored on CompactFlash card–the largest image can be a couple of MB in size so you’ll need to think big when it comes to CF card size with this camera. The battery is removable, and a spare to carry in the pocket might be a good idea.

Canon supplies a range of desktop software for viewing, editing and making use of your digital images. As with previous PowerShot cameras, one of the tools works with the Stitch Assist mode on the camera itself in the production of panorama shots. I started with the original Elph, and have upgraded on the line ever since. This camera is a WORKHORSE. It’s self sealing, so no need to keep it in a case, unless you care to keep it shiny and scratch free. It’s durable, takes great photos and is handy to capture some rough video. If you upgrade the card, you can take about 5000 photos & 10 video (enough for most family vacations without downloading during your trip).

The only think I’d like is a heftier flash – but I’m not thinking that’s possible in such a compact camera.

I bought this camera new in 2004. I still use it and love it today! It is compact and easy to use. And it takes beautiful, sharp, richly colored photos.

Recently it started having a memory card error. I called Canon, and they fixed it for free. They even paid for shipping. I was honestly blow away by the customer service. I just sent the camera in, and it was fixed and returned within about a week. Now its working perfectly, as before.

The only thing I don’t like about this camera is that is has no manual focus and light adjustment. It has some fun and useful manual settings though.
